Does Marion County Pick Up Bulk Trash at the Curb? What Ocala Residents Actually Get

June 16, 2026 · 5 min read · Bingo Pickup

Short answer: it depends on where you live, and for most of Marion County the honest answer is no, the county does not run curbside bulk trash pickup. If you're in unincorporated Marion County, that old couch on the curb isn't going anywhere on its own. If you're inside Ocala city limits, you can usually schedule a bulk pickup for a fee. And nobody gets the simple, automatic curbside service folks expect when they move here from a bigger city.

It trips up a lot of people, so let's walk through who actually picks up what, where you'd haul things yourself, and what it costs you in time and gas. We'll link the official county and city pages for the exact fees and hours, since those change and we'd rather you have the real numbers than a guess.

Unincorporated Marion County: no county curbside pickup at all

Here's the part that surprises new residents. Marion County's Solid Waste department does not provide curbside garbage collection for unincorporated areas, and there's no county bulk-item truck coming by your house. Instead, you pay an annual solid waste assessment on your tax bill, and that gives you access to a network of recycling and drop-off centers around the county.

If you want a can rolled to your curb every week, you have to hire a private franchise hauler yourself and pay for it separately. Bulk items like furniture and appliances are generally not part of that picture unless your specific hauler offers it. So when people ask whether the county picks up bulk trash, the real answer for most of the county is: you handle it, either by hauling it yourself or hiring help.

Your free option: the county recycling and drop-off centers

The upside of that solid waste assessment is that Marion County runs roughly 18 recycling/drop-off centers, and residents can drop off most household materials there at no extra charge. That covers a lot of everyday stuff — cardboard, paper, aluminum, scrap metal and appliances, yard waste, used motor oil, batteries, textiles, and sharps in approved containers. Electronics are accepted at several of the centers. (Heads up: glass is no longer accepted at the centers.)

The county also holds monthly furniture collection events that rotate among different recycling centers, which is a free way to get rid of a couch or mattress if your timing lines up. Check the official list for what's accepted and where, since it changes.

The Baseline Landfill: where big bulk loads go (for a fee)

When you've got more than the recycling centers will take — a full trailer of construction debris, a big bulk cleanout, lots of furniture — you're headed to the Baseline Landfill and Transfer Station at 5601 SE 66th St in Ocala. This is the self-haul option for the heavy stuff, and it's where disposal fees apply (usually charged by weight). It's open Monday through Saturday and closed Sundays, but always check current hours and fees on the county site before you go.

Self-hauling works fine if you own a truck or trailer, you don't mind loading and unloading twice, and you can make the trip during open hours. The catch is the time, the lifting, the gas, and the dump fee — which is exactly the math that pushes a lot of people to just have it picked up instead.

  • Baseline Landfill / Transfer Station info on the recycling & trash disposal page.
  • Bring proof of residency and expect a per-pound disposal fee for bulk loads.

Inside Ocala city limits? You do get scheduled bulk pickup

If your address is inside the City of Ocala, the picture is different. The city's Residential Sanitation division offers garbage, yard waste, and bulk collection one day a week depending on your route, and you can schedule a bulk item pickup by appointment by calling 352-351-6697. It's not free, though — service charges and disposal fees apply, and big or unusual items may need special handling.

One important update for 2026: the City of Ocala is ending curbside recycling collection on July 6, 2026 and moving to a citywide drop-off recycling program. Existing recycling carts are set to convert to garbage carts unless residents request removal. So even inside the city, recycling is becoming a haul-it-yourself situation.

What about The Villages and nearby communities?

If you're in The Villages, bulk pickup is handled through your Community Development District, and the rules and fees vary by district — some charge a small flat fee per bulk pickup, others run it through a sanitation contractor. Your district office is the right place to confirm. The big takeaway across all of North Central Florida is the same, though: there is no single, simple, automatic curbside bulk service that covers everyone, and recycling access keeps shrinking.

Where Bingo Pickup fits

We started Bingo because this gap is a genuine local pain point: Marion County has no residential curbside recycling and limited-to-no curbside bulk pickup, and not everyone has a truck, a free Saturday, and the back for it. We're a one-truck junk removal and recycling crew serving Ocala, Gainesville, The Villages, and the rest of North Central Florida — and we do the hauling, the dump fees, and the sorting so you don't have to.

Booking takes about two minutes: enter your address, pick your service, upload a few photos, and choose a two-hour window between 6 AM and 8 PM, any day of the week. Photo-based pricing means no surprises — we quote from the pictures, your card is only *authorized* at booking and isn't *charged* until the job is done. Same-day is available when the schedule allows for a $39 fee. One note: we're exterior-only, so just have items set out at the curb, driveway, garage, or yard — we don't go inside the home.
